Our Rooms and Routine
At Heathcot we believe that care and education are equally important in the experience which we offer children.
The routines and activities that make up the day in the setting are provided in ways that:
▪ Help each child to feel that she/he is a valued member of the setting.
▪ Ensure the safety of each child.
▪ Help children to gain from the social experience of being part of a group.
▪ Provide children with opportunities to learn and help them to value learning.

The Session
We organise our sessions/days so that the children can choose from, and work at, a range of activities and in doing so, build up their ability to select and work through a task to its completion. The children are encouraged to take part in adult-led small and large group activities which introduce them to new experiences and help them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to learn to work with others.
Outdoor activities contribute to children's health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them. Children have the opportunity and are encouraged to take part in outdoor child-chosen and adult-led activities, as well as those provided in the indoor playroom(s). The setting caters for children's individual needs for rest and quiet activities during the day.
Snacks & Dinner Time
The normal curriculum includes morning and afternoon snacks for all children. The setting makes snacks and dinner time a social occasion at which children and adults sit together. We plan the menus for snack time so that the children are provided with healthy and nutritious food. Do tell us about your child's dietary needs and we will make sure that these are met. Parents need to provide a nutritious packed lunch for full day children or children that stay for lunch club as we don’t have the facilities to make dinner on the premises. We have facilities for storing packed lunches and heating them up when necessary.

Our Team
At Heathcot Preschool, our experienced and caring team is passionate about giving every child the very best start in life. We pride ourselves on creating a warm, inclusive and nurturing environment where children feel safe, supported and encouraged to reach their full potential.
Our team brings a wealth of experience and qualifications across early years education, including Early Years Teacher Status, BA (Honours) in Early Years, and Level 3, 4 and 5 qualifications in Childcare and Education.
We celebrate and value our diverse community and have staff who speak a range of languages including English, Urdu, Punjabi, Kashmiri, Gujarati, Pahari and Bengali. We also have practitioners who use Signalong to support communication and inclusion. If you would prefer support in a particular language, please speak to a member of our team.
Building strong relationships with children and families is at the heart of what we do. Through our key person approach, each child is supported by a dedicated practitioner who gets to know their individual needs, interests and development, working closely with families to support their learning journey.
Communication with parents is an important part of preschool life. We use the Famly app to share updates and communicate regularly with families, alongside face-to-face conversations, telephone, email and other methods where needed to ensure every family feels connected and informed.
Our Management Committee
Heathcot Preschool is a registered charity and is governed by a voluntary Management Committee made up of parents and members of the local community, including both current and past families of the preschool.
This community-led approach helps ensure that decisions are made with children and families at the heart of everything we do and reflects the needs of the families we support.
Our committee works closely with the leadership team to help maintain a high quality, sustainable and inclusive early years provision for all children.
The Management Committee is responsible for:
• Providing oversight of the preschool’s finances and long-term sustainability
• Supporting the recruitment and employment of staff
• Ensuring the setting has effective policies and procedures in place
• Promoting high standards of care, learning and safeguarding
• Encouraging strong partnerships between the preschool and families
• Supporting the strategic development and future growth of the setting
We are always keen to welcome new members and encourage parents and carers to get involved. If you would like to find out more about joining our committee, please speak to a member of staff or contact the committee via email:
